Oh great, now I’m having problems with wordpress.com. I change a post slug, the page disappears (404 errors). I delete a page, it’s gone, the url doesn’t work (404s), but the links remain in my pages list. Something is very screwed up, and it turns out it’s some sort of caching, or maybe database replication issues. After 30 minutes or so, everything’s working. That kind of delay is a little severe, especially when it results in invalid links. I’ve been told they’re working on it.

wordpress.com
You may have noticed a few things are different with the blog. I’ve moved from my own hosted server to shared hosting on wordpress.com. Why? Because I just don’t have the time, energy, and effort to admin a system in my spare time. I can’t keep the security up, I just can’t keep up period. Between work and home the last thing I want to be doing is playing sysadmin, upgrading the blog software, yadda yadda yadda.
Although my hosting service (linode.com) was great, they’re a tad expensive, especially for a hobbyist. I get a bunch of upgrades on wordpress.com, plus upgraded storage at picasaweb, for less than a quarter of what I’ve been paying for hosting.
The downside is the server is a little less responsive, and file downloads are unavailable for the time being.
