it’s too quiet… an update.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark Andrachek @ 4:14 pm

It’s… quiet in the house right now. Bonnie and Isaac have both been asleep for coming up on two hours, and I think the cat’s cuddled up with Bonnie. I’m not used to this silence. It’s really strange, almost disconcerting.

So, since I have this quiet time, and I’m not up to much of anything physical, I thought I’d write an update about what’s been going on the past month or so.

It’s been a series of highs and lows.

On June 30th, I hit the big 3-0. (Man I’m really feeling old, starting to go gray, *sigh*).

Bonnie got a job working as an activities assistant at a nursing home. My mom has been watching Isaac for us, which has been great — it really wouldn’t be worth it for Bonnie to be working if we had to pay for childcare too.

And then… the dishwasher dies. I mean really dies. So we have to get a new one (I don’t think I could live in the same house with Bonnie if we had to go without a dishwasher for more than 3 days or so). There goes some cash and pretty much an entire weekend. So much for painting the portch. With the weather we’ve been having, I’m starting to think we’re going to have to pay someone who can do it whenever the weather is right. This humidity and thunderstorms are aweful. It’s one of the few things about Virginia I really don’t like.

Back to the topic at hand. Well, my mom’s got a bad back. Looks like she’s going to have to have surgery. This isn’t her first, and might not be her last. Last time it was about 3 weeks recovery until she could do things again. This time around, she’s really done it. It looks like it’s going to be 3 months or thereabouts before my she’ll be physically back in shape enough to watch Isaac, so it looks like we’ll be putting him in daycare for a few months.

Besides the portch painting, the house needs some other work, the sooner the better. We’re planning on redoing the small, shared bath upstairs. We’re going to keep the current fixtures, cabinetry, etc. that we can.

Some plumbing work we’re going to hire out - need to replace the old rusting galvanized pipes. We’re going to take the room back to studs (currently a mixture of different wallcoverings — plaster, maybe some drywall, marlite, and wood pannelling), install a new floor, install a vapor barrier on the outside wall, add insulation all around, new drywall, paint, and since the room is so narrow and cramped, we’re going to flip the door around and have it open into the hallway.

theme released

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark Andrachek @ 3:47 pm

Well, I’m sick, got a sinus infection. In fact, the whole family is sick and it’s been a miserable weekend. Haven’t got much of anything accomplished around the house, so I decided to go ahead and package up and release my theme, as-is. Release early, release often, right? Should’ve done this awhile ago. Anyway, here it is, kubiee v0.1.

This theme is based on Kubrick and Green Marniee. The layout is primarily from Kubrick, but the colors are from Green Marniee.

Please note that in order to get the rounded corners like I have, you need to use the NiftyCorners plugin.
