Well, I’m in Chicago, home of the sears tower and the house of blues, for some training.
I really really like Chicago, it’s a beautiful city, relatively clean, lots of culture, and lots of Irish Pubs! (Not to mention the bevvy of beautiful babes!) I really wish we were here in November, the opera house here is putting on Sweeny Todd! But.. we’re going to see Filter at the House of Blues on Friday.
Just yesterday I discovered a pretty cool library for php called ADOdb. This library provides a very nice database abstraction layer similar to Perl’s DBI. Basically it lets you talk to a number of databases using 99% identical code. It took me about 15 minutes to simplify and rewrite all my SQL code for this site using it. And it’s available under the BSD or LGPL license, so it can be used in commercial apps too. Very cool, so if you’re into php, check it out. I’m also playing around with the php AfterBurnner*Cache module, that should speed up php speed significantly.
After a brief hiatus to posting, I’m back again. I turned 27 on June 30th. I had a great old time at the james river homebrewers summer party, and had the best hot dogs ever! Kudos to Monica and Joel, our hosts, for a great even (even if miss Monica did forget my birthday). It’s ok becausee Ronnie forgot too.
It was Steph’s birthday yesterday, we went out to Strawbe Street Cafe in downtown Richmond to celebrate. If you happen to be in Richmond, I’d highly recommend it. It’s a bit pricy (not to bad, expect to pay $10-20 for your meal, plus whatever for drinks), but I’ve never had a bad meal there, and the atmosphere is excellent. The only downside is that they have no draft beer, and their bottled beers are a little over priced. They have a very good wine list of a Richmond resturaunt though.
