Oh how I love payday! I just wish Wachovia was faster in updating it’s online banking. I also wish they integrated with PayTrust. See, PayTrust has a utility called SmartBalance, which, if your bank supports it, will “balance” your bank account with your PayTrust checks that have already been mailed out. That would be soooo handy. Well, I found out SunTrust works with them, and there’s a branch right near my new apartment. Wachovia is about 2 miles away. I also have some friends that use SunTrust, and they’re happy with them, so it looks like I’ll be switching banks.
In other financial matters, if you see me, or talk to me on the first, please, please remind me to call my apartment complex office and tell them to charge my rent to my debit card. Thanks in advance. hehehe.
It is not that often I run into things that make me cringe, but two of the headlines on abcnews.go.com are just so… gross. The first is Scientists Craft Naked a Chicken, which discusses how scientists have cross-bred chickens with an un-named featherless fowl to create a long-necked pink chicken with no feathers. Supposedly this will allow chicken farms in warm countries to save on their air conditioning bill, and reduce pollution by eliminating the feathers as a waste product. I think it’s more likely to be an off-with-the-head, into-the-fryer type deal. Ugh.
The other article is Bop With Britney in New Videogame. What makes this newsworthy? A video game that features a scantily clad Britney Spears dancing? I mean, c’mon people, if she wasn’t out there exposing her midriff (and then some), and shaking tits and ass, would anyone over 13 actually listen to that drivel?
What a mixed up crazy world we live in, that this sort of shit is actually considered news.
It’s been quite awhile since I put anything up here. Not much has really been going on in my life lately I suppose. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
One thing I am looking forward to is going to see Star Wars EP2 tomorrow night. It’s not so much the movie that I’m looking forward to as the whole group experience, packed theater, enthusiastic audience. I find movies so much more enjoyable on the big screen and the company of a large number of friends and strangers. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Star Wars and everything, but EP1 was a huge let down, so I’m not really expecting that much from EP2.
I would like to take a moment now to remind, or tell, everyone reading this that May 25th is Towel Day. Towel Day is a tribute to Douglas Adams, the late great author of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and the other books that followed in the series. Check out the Towel Day website for more details, but be sure to bring a towel with you on the 25th.
I’m finally starting to get settled into my new place. And fortunately so is Spot, my tiger oscar. He was listless, wouldn’t eat, and just drifted around the tank for several days. But he’s back with a vengence, going nuts when I get near the tank with his food bag.
It look’s like I may now have to forstall getting my furniture this month. I barely have enough money for food until payday, and then I have to pay my car insurance. My car insurance is really good actually, full coverage at less than $350/6 months. However, I’m used to paying for it monthly, when it I was on my parents policy. So that’s a big chunk of change all at once that I wasn’t exactly prepared for.
I wish there was some kind of furniture, comfortable, tasteful design, that was cheap, and could be easily mass produced so that you could have outlets across the country, and order quick and easy off the internet. IKEA comes close, but the quality isn’t always there, there are very few IKEA stores, shipping is expensive, and the cost for what you get is kind of high. Still, it’s probably the best thing out there for me. *sigh* I guess there is too much of a history of good furniture being a handcrafted art. And there is certainly something to be said for it. However I think that the furniture industry is going to face a revolution in the not too distant future. You can already purchase easy to assemble and fashionable small furniture (coffee tables, entertainment centers, etc.) from places like Target and Walmart. I have to wonder how much longer it will be before you can buy a sofa or recliner there, on the cheap, with nationwide product continuity?
Anyone that knows me, knows that I hate spam. I’ve recently implemented blackhole lists on webmages that prevents spam from open relays, and I have a procmail filter that puts anything else that comes through that’s questionable into a seperate spam folder.
About a year or so ago I tried to sell my old apple iMac on ebay. The winning bidder refused to pay. So I submitted a non-paying bidder complaint against him since he refused to pay. He emailed me a little bit ago (like 30 minutes), and offered me $20 to remove my complaint. I told him I’d take $500, no less. Otherwise the complaint stands. He didn’t honor his bid, and that’s that. He declined, and then only a few moments later I’m being signed up for multiple adult-oriented email lists. That happen to be directly to me, with my name attached not just my email address. Coincidence? I think not.
Fortunately he’s not only immature, he’s a bloody idiot too. All the things he’s signing me up for require confirmation, so I’m only getting emails asking me to authorize them adding me to their list. It’s not even annoying, it’s all going to my Spam box. It requires a great intellect I’m sure to sign someone up for the “Yahoo! Underwear” mailing list. heh. I just hope he decides to stop and not escalate this. ‘Cause I can get real nasty when it comes to net.war ;).
Woohoo! Today is May 3rd, the official release of the new Spider-Man movie. Spidey has always been one of my favorite characters (him and Thor I think have been the top two in my book). I remember watching the old cartoons, the old theme song, even the original live action movie. I had a spider-man piggy bank, and I had a little plastic spider-man that attached to a parachute… I was in Target the other day, and saw that the little parachute spider-man I had as a kid has been re-released. It’s the exact same mold and everything!
Needless to say I’ve been looking forward to going to see this movie for awhile now. I was supposed to go tonight with a friend of mine, but he made plans to brew this evening. So I might have to go it alone.
Oh well, I’m getting more and more used to doing things by myself. I’ve pretty much figured out that it’s the only way I’m going to be able to get to do much of anything.
